The city of Radeberg is located not far from the capital of Saxony on the edge of the Dresden Heath with good transport connections to the A4/A13 motorways as well as short distances to Dresden and the airport.
The name "Radeberg" was first mentioned in a document in 1219 (Franconian and Thuringian farmers began developing the Radeberg area). In 1289 the castle complex was built, and rural craftsmen founded a market settlement near the castle on the old trade route to Bohemia. The joint-stock brewery "Zum Bergkeller" was founded in 1872 (later Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei). In 1880 Agathe Zeis founded the model and teaching dairy Heinrichsthal and produced the first Camembert in Germany in 1884. By 1885 Radeberg already had 7,377 inhabitants. In 1905 the Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei became purveyor to the Saxon king.
