Heidenau is located southeast of Dresden in the Upper Elbe Valley at the mouth of the Müglitz into the Elbe in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge in Saxony. Heidenau was awarded as the most family-friendly community in Saxony in 2004. There is very good transport connection to the Saxon state capital (including by S-Bahn).
