Friedrichstadt is a district of Dresden located on the left side of the Elbe and belongs to the Altstadt local office area but forms its own district. Friedrichstadt is located close to Dresden city center and thus represents a very interesting living space. In Friedrichstraße in Friedrichstadt (which, by the way, is not named after the same Friedrich), directly opposite the Friedrichstadt Hospital, is one of Dresden's most important cemeteries, the Old Catholic Cemetery. Friedrichstadt is characterized by the listed hospital, the few remaining buildings of the Vorwerk, and the technical town hall at the Dresden-Friedrichstadt marshalling yard. As one of the few intact streets near the city center, Friedrichstraße has, besides a baroque church, numerous residential buildings of this style that are under monument protection. The district is increasingly developing into a very attractive and interesting residential area. Currently, many buildings are being renovated and new constructions are being created. Friedrichstadt also houses the Alberthafen with the widely visible building of the Dresdener Mühle or Hafenmühle as well as the former municipal cattle and slaughterhouse, today's trade fair. Friedrichstadt is served by Dresden-Mitte station, which is located on the eastern border to the Wilsdruffer Vorstadt district.
