Karben liegt rund 15 Kilometer nördlich von Frankfurt am Main im städtischen Ballungsraum Frankfurt/Rhein-Main inmitten der Niddaaue zwischen Taunus und Vogelsberg. Erschlossen wird die Stadt über die Verkehrsachse Frankfurt-Gießen mit der Bundesstraße 3. Die nächstgelegenen Autobahnanschlüsse sind Friedberg (Bundesautobahn 5, Anschlussstelle 16) im Norden und das Preungesheimer Dreieck (Bundesautobahn 661, Anschlussstelle 8) im Süden. Darüber hinaus verläuft die Strecke der Main-Weser-Bahn über Karbener Gemarkung. Die Stadt ist auf ihr mit dem Bahnhof Groß Karben am Ortsrand des Stadtteils Kloppenheim und dem Haltepunkt Okarben angeschlossen.
