Oelsa is a village stretched five kilometers along the Oelsabach, whose broad Mulde valley runs through the village area between the heights of Lerchenberg, Steinhübel, and Götzenbüschchen with the Oelsen-Berg from southeast to northwest. The settlement form corresponds to a row village, which goes back to a Slavic forest village origin. The place is located at about 300 m above sea level on the northern edge of the Dippoldiswalder Heide in the Eastern Ore Mountains.
