Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach is a municipality in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge in Saxony and borders directly to the northeast on the state capital Dresden. The municipality lies between Dresden, Pirna, and Stolpen in the valley of the Wesenitz, its side valleys, and the surrounding highlands. West of Dittersbach, the terrain rises to the Schönfelder highlands. The municipality was formed in 1965 by the merger of Dürrröhrsdorf and Dittersbach. On January 1, 1994, the municipalities of Porschendorf (with Elbersdorf), Stürza (with Dobra), and Wünschendorf were incorporated, followed by Wilschdorf five years later. A special attraction is the "Belvedere" on the "Schönen Höhe," a tower with frescoes painted by Carl Gottlieb Peschel depicting works by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, donated by the Dresden art patron and Goethe admirer Johann Gottlob von Quandt. The tower houses an exhibition on history.
