The district of Waldau, together with Bettenhausen and Forstfeld, forms the southeastern city boundary of Kassel. The purely residential area, which was developed west of the former village of Waldau in 1960, is complemented by a large and popular leisure and recreation area as well as the largest contiguous industrial area in Hesse in the southern part. This district offers a wonderful living experience for the population and a fertile ground for successful business.
The population of the small rural settlement of Waldau literally exploded when, in 1963, a residential area consisting of four- to five-story buildings with about 2,000 new apartments was built. A testament to the small village is still the Zehntscheune, a historic building from the 16th century, lovingly restored in 1976. In Waldau, you will find the right mix of multi-story rental apartment buildings and classic single-family homes.
The extensive commercial area in the southern part of Waldau has great economic importance for the entire region and also houses a large training and further education center. The perfect balance to this is offered by the former Buga site, directly on the Fulda floodplain with the adjacent Buga lake. This area is very popular as a leisure and recreation area.
