The agricultural past is still visible in many places in Ahlem. The village on the western edge of the city was incorporated into Hannover only in 1974. Horticulture also had a strong influence here. On the site of the former Israelite horticultural school is now the memorial site that commemorates the concentration camp in Ahlem.
